Lower Court Hearing Of Charge of Murder

ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL Per Press Association TAUMARUNUI, Oct. 31. The bearing concluded this afternoon of the charge against Charles Harold Longley, aged 39, a labourer, of murdering Jeremiah O'Sullivan, aged 52, a farmer, at Manunui on September 22. James Owen Tiney, a millhand and farmer, deposed that he had known deceased for JC years and they' had helped each other on their farms. He had never seen O’Sullivan in a bad temper; in fact, he wus one of the best natures men he had ever met. Cristopher Jarvis, a carpenter, deposed that he had seen accused collaps# on Mr. McKenzie’s verandah as witness arrived to visit Mr. McKenzie. Witness corroborated Mrs. McKenzie’s evidence regarding statements made by accused and said he also heard accused say’, iu reference to O ’Sullivan, “he lifted Iris arms as if to hit her.” This closed the evidence for the Crown. Accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial at the nest sitting of the Supreme Court ut Hamilton.
