Women Injured On Country Road ENEMY ACTIVITY OVER BRITAIN United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Friday, 1.11 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 8. It is officially stated that two enemy bombers were shot down over the Chan nel this morning. It is officially stated that isolated enemy planes dropped bombs in various parts of Britain last night. Little damage is reported except from a town in north-east England where a sanatorium and shop property were considerably damaged. Leaflets were dropped in a district in North England. Some women walking along a country road were seriously injured. * Raiders dropped big flares before bombing a south-east coastal town where they extensively damaged several houses. Bombs were dropped in the vicinity of a small town in south-west England on Wednesday afternoon. A farmhouse was wrecked, and the shock of hearing the explosion of a large bomb dropped in & field is believed to have been responsible for the death of an elderly woman five miles away. German planes were over an inland town in south-east England yesterday afternoon. It is officially stated that enemy planes on Wednesday night dropped some incendiary bombs in two districts of Scotland, and also German leaflets and a small number of bombs in the Bristol Channel area. Negligible damage was done, and there were no casualties.
The Air Minister, Sir Archibald Sinclair, told the House of Common* that the balloon barrage was being steadily extended in all parts of the country.
