Music Circle of Townswomens Guild

ACTIVITIES CONCLUDED For the last meeting of the year of the Music Circle of the Palmerston North Townswomen's Guild there was a large and enthusiastic gathering of members. A programme pleasingly varied had been arranged as follows: Selections, glee singers; vocal solos, Mesdames T. Simpson and Jamieson; pianoforte solos, Shirley Melville; elocutionary items, Mrs. Rowley; violin solo, Miss Ferrol Howlcy; sketch, the Misses Bailey, and a play by members of the Drama Circle.

Further pleasure was provided by Mr. A. 6. Bayliss, who recently returned from a trip to North America, with impressions of travel. The speaker gavo a vivid word picture of Suva and Honolulu, the ports of call en route to Vancouver. She then took her audience with her on & tour which the party from Palmerston North made from Vancouver to San Franciscb, through California to Los Angeles, from which centre they joined the Santa Fe railway, proceeding on to Kansas City, Chicago, Washington, Philadelphia, New York (where several days were spent at the World Fair), Niagara, Toronto, Banff, and back to Vancouver on the home ward way.

During no interlude before supper opportunity was taken to present Mrs. Bigham, lender of the glee, and Mrs. Howley, convener, with tokens of appreciation for the splendid work during the year. Bouquets were also presented to Mrs. J. Kiddle, accompanist for the circle, and Mesdames E. W. Drake and Bennett for secretarial duties. Thanks

were also conveyed to Mrs. McEwen. for her untiring work as a member of the committee.

The accompaniments for the evening were played by Mesdames Biddle, Howley and B. C. Donald.
