Way to Obtain Good Health

The lecture on health and the influence of food as a cause of disease given by Maureen Morris Alexander, international health teacher and food scientist, who opened up her campaign in Palmerston North last evening, was most interesting and instructive aud this magnetic speaker sent her audience away impressed with a new and better way of living. To-night, November 24, another inspiring address is promised for both men and women in the Little Theatre, (Opera House). Maureen Morris Alexander maintains that sick people all over the world are being converted to the idea of eating for health. The increasing need for hospitals, gaols, mental asylums, doctors and dentists, with a daily consumption of millions of pounds worth of medicines, is convincing proof that orthodox methods have failed. The inherent power of life will restore the body to normal good health if selfpoisoning by preservatives, inorganic cooking powders, condiments aud drugcontaining beverages are omitted from meals and in their place added more whole-grain cereals, fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, milk, cheese, fish, butter and a wide variety of fresh meats. In a “Garden of Eden" like New Zealand there is no reason at all why there should not be a campaign for “Eat more apples, lemons, poorman oranges, pears and the fresh fruits coming in season," all of these containing the natural sugars that are necessary for energy and warmth. Fruits preserve and increase the alkaline reserve in the blood stream, while the concentrated starches and proteins are more acidforming. Disease is the body not a ease, hence the word “Dis-ease." At her lecture for women only last evening, Maureen Alexander said New Zealand men and women were in a position to show the rest of the world how tO live, yet what did one find? The hospitals wero full and thousands suffered, all through lack of attention to diet and meals. Fruit there was in abundance, and instead of it being in every homo and at every meal, one discovered it a luxury. If New Zealanders wanted health then they must bo up and doing something about it. All that had been done in New Zealand was the prevention of scarlet fevers and other such diseases, while the death roll from heart disease, cancer, dropsy, etc., had grown rapidly. She urged every woman to bo the chemist of her own home so that she could build up healthy bodies for her husband and children, Tho general run was to find them pushing poison into their bodies instead, through lack of essential knowledge. She announced consultation hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., her office being on the first floor of tho Bank of New Zealand building in the Square. Her lectures are being given in the Little Theatre (Opera House).
