HUKANUI THIRDS DEFEAT EKETAHUNA On Saturday at llukanui there was a largo crowd J,o witness a good display of Rugby football. For the early part of the game rain fell, but afterwards it cleared. Tho teams took the field as follows: Hukanui (red): J. Bartosh, J. Dougherty, B. Goodin, J. Breen, N. Harrington, W. Russell, Callender, Daldv, E. Perry, D. Webb (captain), N. Perry, B. Dougherty, D. Udy. Eketahuna (white): H. Steere, B. Stecre, B. Morison, D. Anderson, Payne, Roney, Murphy, Farfeita, Evans Ryan, Brackoch, Ryan, Keelia, Jaspers. Eketahuna kicked off and were in trouble shortly afterwards when N. Perry short-punted down to tho white, line. A force-down saved the movement. A few minutes later rede were aw r arded a penalty kick but Webb failed. Eketahuna forwards narrowly missed scoring when the ball was dribbled toward reds ’ line. Hukanui had a strong wind behind them and with this advantage Webb was able to score beneath the posts. 110 took the kick and added tho extra points.—Hukanui 5, Eketahuna 0. From the kick-off the ball was booted well downfield and Russell followed up fast and scored, Webb failing to convert.—Hukanui 8, Eketahuna 0. There was no ciiaiige in tho score at half-time. Hukanui were in trouble early in the second half, but the red forwards went right down to tho white ljfifi, but Eketahuna forced. From the kick-off play was shifted and Hukanui were penalised in their twenty-five. Steere failed with the kick. Play was kept mainly in midfield until Dougherty received an injury which held up play, but he was able to continue. From a scrum Payne scored and converted, to bring the score to—Hukanui 8, Eketahuna 5. Shortly afterwards Webb was injured but after treatment was able to carry on. Bartosh had a chance to score but mishandled the ball, the final whistle going with the score unchanged.— Hukanui 8, Eketahuna 5. Other Third Grade Results. Pahiatua B 7 defeated Mangatamoka 6. Pahiatua A defeated Nireaha.
