Basketball Tournament

WANGANUI GAIN SENIOR HONOURS 1 INTERMEDIATE A DRAW There was great activity in basket- | ball circles in Palmerston North on ] Saturday last with a tournament arranged by tho Manawatu Basketball Association in which 13 teams were ] engaged including representatives from 1 1 Wanganui, Horowhcnua, Daunevirke, , Feilding, To Kawau, and Foxton. The ■ day was beautifully fine though late ini the afternoon tho temperature dropped! considerably, and tho games wore put , through expeditiously under the able . control of Miss F. Ross. Miss C. ( Van tier (president of tho Manawatu j Basketball Association) being in attendance, also other officers. Tho teams wero divided into senior, intermediate and junior, each team having two matches and the finals were decided between the two teams with most points. Wanganui carried off the senior honours, accounting for Manawatu, Horowhenua and then Te Kawau in tho final, being superior in every department of the game. 1 Manawatu and Feilding shared the honours in tho intermediate section,' the final resulting in a draw. The ladies responsible for tho refreshments and oranges were Mcsdamcs \ Dunstan, Packer, Lyall and Gibberd, j

Technical School grounds presented | a most animated scene with such a | crowd of girls in their bright and trim uniforms varying from scariet, bright blue, light and dark green, black with scarlet and different tartans, and there was an interested attendance of spectators to cheer the girls on their way. The referees were Misses C. Vautiei (Whakarongo), E. MacDonald (Levin) I. Stuart (Palmerston N.), Mesdames E. M. Sandilands (Feilding), L. Russel (Pahiatua), Messrs. R. Francis (Wanganui), W. There was no doubt about thoir movements and their j initiative in passing and also in finishI ing a movement. Although the Wanganui girls were superior to To Kawau in the finer points and in making use of their opportunities, Te •Kawau put up a brave light aud their goal-throwing was good when the opportunity came. The score finished IS —11, Miss Hodson having been responsible for 10 goals and Miss Glasgow two. Misses E. Gimblett (8) and R. Hill (3) scoring for Te Kawau. 1 I The Manawatu team suffered defeat 1 at tho hands of Wanganui earlier in the afternoon, the local girls not being , able to got going or discloso the form ■ they have been showing of late. i In tho intermediate final between 1 Manawatu and Feilding which ended in !i a draw, both teams scoring six goals,!
