Arts and Craft Circles Farewell Mrs. A. S. Bayliss
TOWNSWOMEN ’ S GUILD FUNCTION Thero was a very pleasant gathering at the Rosco tea-rooms yesterday morning when members of tho arts and crafts circle of tho Palmerston North Townswomen’-s Guild entertained a foundation member, Airs. A. S. Bayliss, L.A.8., L.L'.C.M., C.V.T.C.L., at morning tea in view of her forthcoming departure on holiday to tho United States of America with her husband.
Airs. A. E. Alansford, president of tho guild, presided and associated with her wero tho guest of honour and Mrs. S. O. I Toon, convener of the circle who had arranged the function.
Delicious refreshments were served at long tables centred with tall vases of tangerino Iceland poppies and greenery and Mrs. Alansford then addressed the gathering. As there were only saying “au revoir” and not il goodbye,’’ Airs. Mansford said, her duty was a very pleasant one. Airs. Bayliss, who would be coming back bringing all sorts of new ideas, from Hollywood and elsewhere had shown in the guild that whatever she undertook she did well and in sharing the knowledge she had paid to acquire she had shown a good spirit. It was such members who kept tho circles together. Airs. Bayliss had never been absent- except through illness. The guild’s display at the Royal Show for which Airs. Bayliss and Airs. Harris were responsible had drawn tho commendation of Lady Galway. . Not only in the circle but in the guild her help had been invaluable.
In asking Airs. Bayliss’ acceptance of a posy of violets and daphne and a gift from her fellow members as a token of the pleasant hours she had helped others to spend, Mrs. Alansford ex pressed tho hope she would kavo a pleasant holiday and come back greatly refreshed.
In her own particular way Mrs. Bayliss expressed her thanks and intimated that in her visit to tho San Francisco Exposition, the New York World Fair, and Hollywood at least, sho should be able to gather much that would be interesting to arts and craft workers. Sho thanked Airs. Alansford for her kindly remarks and the members for tho gift. Ms. Toon said Airs. Bayliss had always been a hard-working and willing member to whom the othors nad looked for a lead. She endorsed all that the president had said about their guest and wished the traveller a pleasant voyage.
Airs. W. M. Tapp, also a foundation member of tho circle, and Airs. Senior added their good wishes. Alusieal honours and cheers were accorded Airs. Bayliss.
Airs. Bull received a dainty wax brooch from Mrs. Bayliss as tho person sitting on tho lucky chair. Others present were Alesdames D. Evans, R. Carrutkers, Palenskj, Woskett, Penman, W. AI. Tapp, Barrett, Howetson, Hobbs, Whitehead, Bunson, M. Silson, Inglis, Bull, Anderson, Price, Harris, Brown, Seator, Holder, Frisk] Alalthews, Alisses E. Stuart and A.' Soundy.
Airs. Bayliss has been farewelled at a host of happy parties where sho has been the recipient of numerous travelling gifts. Among her hostesses have been Mesdames H. Hodge (North Street), J. Kirby and A. Turner (Heretaunga Street), M. Phillips (Broadway Avenue), T. Seator (Bussell Street) and P. Holder (Regent Street).
