Health report.—lnspector J. F. Flowers reported as follows:—"During the quarter the plans and specifications for the rest room have been finalised and I hope to see this work well in hand before the end of next September. A sample of water taken from the well in the Domain on June 22 proved to be of doubtful quality. This may be accounted for by the fact that the recent pollution in the vicinity of the well caused by cattle has not had time to drain away. I will take? another sample later after we have had considerable rainfall. Conditions generally are satisfactory in the town and there have been no eases of infectious disease reported. Since my previous report 1 am pleased to note that the well in the Domain has been fenced in and the cattle trough disconnected. During the quarter the question of drainage in the town was considered and the danger of using wells as a source of drinking water if drainage is allowed to soak into the ground in the vicinity was clearly indicated by the medical officer of health from Palmerston North.” The inspector reported making the following sanitary -inspections: Habitations, five; food sellers’ premises, 14; plumbing and drainage, one; Clifton Hall, three; Domain, three; total, 26.
