Clarion Call’s Half-brother The 23 acceptors for the Glenmore Maiden Raco all lined up, and Split Second was installed favourite, with Kaiwaka, second in request, at a good price. This half-brother to Clarion Call eventually won with ease. When the field settled down The Smiler, Kaiwaka, Sir Crusoe, Laughing Chief, Dynasty, White Foam and Patahi were the leaders, and as they ran across the top The Smiler had drawn clear of Kaiwaka, Hasten, Sir Crusoe, Patahi, Raco Away and Dynasty. Kaiwaka followed The Smiler into the straight, and their nearest attendants were Hasten, Sir Crusoe, Race Away and Dynasty. Once straightened up, Kaiwaka took command and ran homo an easy winner by three lengths. Sir Crusoe came on to get second money, two lengths ahead of Race Away, and The Smiler just beat Laughing Chief for third place. Valiant Lady, Hasten, Vaals Queen, Colossal Chief, Dynasty and Patahi were next, the favourite being unsighted. Aussie Ra Impresses as a Hurdler Backed down to favouritism for his initial start over the battens, Aussie Ra duly won the Rosebank Hack Hurdles from the pacemaker, Hunting Lore. Hunting Loro led Bing Boy and Golden Memory over the first hurdle, where Bing Boy dipped but made a good recovery. Hunting Lore was well clear passing the stands, with Bing Boy, The Tramp, Golden Memory (who spread herself on landing over the third jump), Aussie Ra and Princess Isabel next. Aussie Ra improved • his position along the back, but Hunting Lore still led by half a dozen lengths on the turn for home, with The Tramp and Aussie Ra ahead of Princess Isabel and Golden Memory. Aussie Ra ran up to the leader at the last jump, and though he clouted the top batten he soon took command, running homo a winner by two lengths from Hunting Lore. Eight lengths back was Princess Isabel, with Tigreterre fourth and Big Boy, Golden Memory and The Tramp next. ‘ Viracious Bests Screen Star Screen Star and Viracious, best backed in the Closeburn Hack Flying, and the pair paid the dividends in the reverse order. Little Robin and Haile Selassie missed the jump-out, and Screen Star led Snigger, Guiding Light, Viracious, Selkirk, Haupongi and Sam’s Choice to the back stretch, where Viracious ran up to the leader, and at the half-mile Screen Star, Viracious and Haupongi were making play from Guiding Light, Selkirk and Little Robin. The order was little changed crossing the top and into the straight, save that Haile Selassie made up ground. Viracious went on to win by three lengths from Screen Star, who was two and a-half lengths in front of Haile Selassie. There was a gap back to Little Robin and Haupongi, with Gaiwind (lame), Selkirk, Colfort and Red Chief next to finish. Splendid Steeples Finish Blue Tiger, Lactose and Glenvane wero evenly backed in the Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeplechase, and in an exciting finish Glenvane won to mako it four on end for New Plymouth stables. Vesty ran off when taking the lead at tho initial obstacle, and Sir Acre lod over the stund double six lengths ahead of Royal King, Advcntus, Glenvane and Umpire. Running down tho back Sir Acre had increased his lead, and next came a bunch consisting of Royal King, Glenvane and Umpire, with Lady Callaghan following. Adventus made a faulty jump after going a mile, and over tho stand doublo the second time Royal King bad headed Sir Acre, tho pair being ten lengths ahead of Glenvane, Lady Callaghan and Blue Tiger, Umpire running off at the second fence of the double. Royal King hit hard at tho brush near the seven furlongs but still held command with Glenvane, the pair being followed down the back by Lady Callaghan, Sir Acre and Count Willofiyx. Three furlongs from home Lady Callaghan ran up to the leaders, -but Royal King jumped away again. In a desperate finish Glenvane came up on the inside of Royal King and Lady Callaghan challenged on tho outside. Glenvane got home by three-quarters of a length from Royal King, with Lady Callaghan half a length away. A dozen lengths back came Count Willonyx, with Blue Tiger aud Lactose next. Good Effort by Riding Spi Quadroon was nearly twice as well backed as Liane and Ruling Spi in tho Riddiford Handicap, but Ruling Spi, with Broughton in tho saddle, beat the other pair comfortably. Mittie, Dorado, Airing, Reipar, Ruling Spi and Quadroon wero the early leaders, but at the end of a furlong Rhodesian had run to the front and Ruling Spi was just behind Mittie and Dorado, 'Reipar dropping back. At the half-mile Rhodesian and Ruling Spi led from Mittie, Liane, Dorado, Airing, Cuisinier and Export, and a little further on Ruling Spi took the lead, showing the way into the straight to Liftne, Mittie, Dorado and Rhodesian, with Sporting Gift making a fast run on the outside. Ruling Spi held on to win by two lengths from Liane, who was half

a head in front of Mittie. Cuisinier was fourth, followed by Dorado, Sporting Gift, Winsome Lu and Reipar. Gladium’s Popular Win Kohika, Inheritance and Lacan were prefered to Gladium, the eventual winner of the Otairi Ladies’ Bracelet. Inheritance, Trovelyn Hold, Ngaitahu, Gladium, Kohika, Battle Pomp and Lacan were tho leaders out of the straight, but Baron Bold moved up fast along the back and at the half-mile he followed Inheritance, Trevelyn Hold and Moonlight Bay, with Kohika, Reawanoa, Lacan and Gladium next. The order was little changed to the straight, whore Lacan was in tlilrd place behind tho leading pair, and Gladium was commencing a run on the outside from well back. Kohika hit the front at the distance but Gladium ran past the topweight to win by two lengths. Inheritance was second, half a length in front of Lacan, with Kohika fourth. Seven lengths back was Moonlight Bay, with Ngaitahu at the head of the others. Third Win for W. J. Broughton and H. Dulieu There were a dozen starters in the hack sprint and the winner was Liberal’s Mint, ridden by W. J. Broughton and trained by H. Dulieu. When they had settled down Te Ore was setting the pace ahead of Liberal's Mint, Debretts, Lucullus Boy, Shining Hours and Gay hunting. As they ran for the straight Gay Hunting moved up into third place and To Ore was going well enough to give the impression that Liberal’s Mint would havo to do his best to win. Broughton soon issued his challenge and when Te Oro was called upon for her final effort she responded but could not retain her lead, Liberal's Mint finishing strongly to win by just over a length. Lucullus Boy was a good third and Gay Hunting was fourth, followed by Shining Hours, Maturity and Donegal.
