Soccer at North Street Park
THISTLE AND Y.M.C.A. EMERGE VICTORIOUS Although the ground at North Street Park was damp and fairly slippery on Saturday, conditions for soccer were quite good in comparison with some of the more recent .Saturdays. 0 There was a fair attendance of spec* tators and the standard of play was quite high. 011 No. I ground Y.M.C.A. met Rovers and play in the first half was even, Y.M.C.A. leading by the small margin of two goals at the spell. There* after however Rovers faded out of the picture and Y.M.C.A., with their bustling -tactics, went on to win b.t nine goal to three. Scorers for Y.M.C.A. were Harkness 4, Warner and Searle 1, Ding* wall 2, while Laing, & Rovers player, headed one through his own own goal. For Rovers C. Armstrong (1) and F, Hart (2) goaled. The teams were as follow: Y.M.C.A.: Ward, Howard, Davidson, Brougham, Harkness, Searle, Dingwall, Bradley, Warner, Gatley. Rovers: Oman, Laing, Sullivan, Coates, Anderson, Fairclougli, Armstrong, F. Hart, Martin, Ramsay, Pagan. Mr. Hesketh was the referee. St. Andrew’s Defeated s—o. On the second ground the speedy Thistle combination defeated St. Andrew’s by the comfortable margin of five goals after a game that did not lack excitement. For Thistle Hurcomb 3, R. Young and Glaister one each, were the scorers. The teams turned out as under:— Thistle; Kempson, Bodell, Hearsey, Downes, Petersen, Geekie, E. Young, Reynolds, Allen, Glaister, Hurcomb. St. Andrew’s: Lyon, Turner, Askam, D. Broughton, W. Young, McSheffrey, Petersen, Rae, A. Young, E. Bell, Horne. Mr. J. Locke was in charge of the game. * Junior Grades. Results of junior games played early in the afternoon were as follow: High School A 2 beat Tech 3. Marist 2 beat High School B 0. Marist A I drew with Marist B 1 Terrace End 2 beat Hokowhitu 0.
