Tararua Power Board

MONTHLY MEETING The chaiiunan (Mr. J. D. Wilson) presided at tho monthly meeting of the Tararua Electric Power Board at Ekotahuna on Friday, and there were present Messrs J. B. Carruthers, J. G. Brechin, W. Britland, T. Fouhy, A. W. Bisset, E. W. Cheetham, P. Davies, C. T. Richardson, L. Johnston, W. Simpson, the secretary-manager (Mr. W. F. Taylor) and the engineer (Mr. D. Fraser). Correspondence. The secretary-manager reported on a previous application from J. Devane and C. Connell, Makakahi Road, for a reduction in guarantees. Ho pointed out that the revenue on this line was no more than sufficient to meet the original cost. It was decided that the board could not see its way to granting tho request. Tho chairman commented that many settlers in the early stages of a new line would guarantee more than they could use in order to get tho power, whereas those further out would not guarantee so much when they come in later. It was a matter of principle with tho board not to reduce guarantees, and in this case the small amount of revenue from the line was an additional factor against any .action in that direction. Raising of Special Rate. The resolution of the June meeting by way of special order in regard to Mr. J. D. Wilson’s notice of motion striking a special rate in connection with the loan of £1650 for Eketahuna cottages was confirmed. The chairman explained that the rents on the cottages would pay interest and sinking fund on tne loan, so that the striking of the rate was a mere formality required by tho law as security, and it would never be collected. An offer of the sale of the right-of-way at the rear of the new building in ' Pahiatua was received from Mr. G. G. Taylor. The matter was left iu the , hands of the chairman and Mr. A. W. Bisset, with power to act. Alteration to Exchange Buildings. Tho secretary-manager was authorised to proceed with alterations to the board’s Eketahuna buildings, transferring the whole of the office staff downstairs, the total cost being £l5O. The secretary-manager also made the suggestion that the upstairs premises of the board could be altered to make .in assembly room or daffee hall, which would require only the moving of a few partitions, and would bring iu some revenue to the board. • Mr. Simpson remarked that Eketahuna was very poorly provided for in respect of this kind of accommodation. The secretary-manager was asked to bring up a report for consideration at the next board meeting. Secretary-Manager’s Report. The secretary-manager, in his report, stated that contributions to tho new I connected load reported by the engineer | included 19 electric ranges, 20 water heaters, 13 motors and 21 vacuumcleaners, radios and refrigerators. Credit sales on trading account amounted to £1247, which, he said, was extraordinary for that time of tho year. The new offices at Pahiatua would be ready for occupation at the end of the month. Accounts. Accounts amounting to £6589 10s 2d (Eketahuna £5633 2s 9d, Pahiatua £956 7s sd) were passed for payment.
