ONB EDUCATION WEEK PEE YEAR Advice was received from the secretary of the Wellington Council of the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, at the meeting of the Manawatu district executive yesterday, that only one education week might be held in the council’s area in any one year and that the numbers attending should be unlimited and fees collected beforehand. Applications were invited for the educational week for the ensuing year. It was resolved to advise the council that the executive did not intend holding an educational week this year, but was co-operating in a week for young farmers which would be held at Massey College. Mr. E. W. Barnett presided, and others present were Messrs. J. C. Gibbons (Farmc.s* Union), J. Gibbons (Bongotea), K. Mitchell (Woodville), A. W. Hudson (Massey College), N. P. Nielsen (Kairanga), V, C. Lewis (Levin), A. Lawson (Kimbolton), H. M. Linklater (Pohangina), D. Rowland (Kairanga), W. Howell (Pohangina), A. J. Galpin (Bunnythorpe), P. Thevenard (Kimbolton), L. Earl and J. Holden (Department of Agriculture), and H. de O. Chamberlain (secretary). Rugby Challenges As the result of a letter from the executive suggesting a match between the Young Farmers’ team and the Manawatu fifteen, the Manawatu Rugby Union advised that no suitable game could be arranged with the Manawatu representatives this year before the southern tour was undertaken, and suggested that the Manawatu Young Farmers* Club’s team play the Manawatu B team as a curtain-raiser to the Wanganui-Manawatu match at the next Winter Show. The chairman stated that the A. and P. Association had expressed thanks to him for the football game which had been put on with the Wairoa team during the Winter Show. The authorities had been very pleased at the fine, open football provided. A motion, sponsored by Mr. Hudson, that the Rugby Union bo advised that the executive would bo pleased to fall in with the suggestion provided the necessary arrangements could be made, was passed. Mr. P. G. Cope wrote stating that the Cope Cup could only be competed for with the permission of the Manawatu District Committee, and must at all times remain the property of that committee.—lt was decided that the cup be the trophy for the annual seven-a-sido Rugby tourney. The secretary of the Woodville Club wrote asking for rules in regard to the Cope Cup and information as to its whereabouts.—The secretary was instructed to reply that there was no rules for the cup, which is in the possession of the district committee. A letter was received from the secretary of the Wairoa Club thanking the committee for its hospitality on the club’s recent visit to Palmerston North, and issuing an invitation to a Manawatu Rugby team to play Wairoa at Wairoa, and suggesting September as a likely time for the match. “I think wo ought to accept this invitation with alacrity,” commented tho chairman.
