Vocal Group of British Music Society

EDWARD GERMAN’S MUSIC A programme of Edward German’s music was presented at tho monthly meeting of the vocal group. On Wednesday evening also a number of songs from other modern English composers. Miss D. Junker, of Pahiatua, who gave a delightful talk on Edward German and his music was accompanied by a party from Pahiatua who supplied part of the programme. Tho programme, which had been arranged by Miss Lexio McDonald (group leader) was as follows: Miss J. Beaeham, “Charming Chloe” (Edward German), “To a Wild Rose” (E. McDowell); Mr. A. Brown, “Rolling Down to Rio,” “The Riddle” (Edward German); quartette, Mrs. I. C. Boyens, Miss D. Junker, Messrs. A. Hamilton and L. Truscott, “The Chase” (Edward German); Miss D. Junker, “Have You News of My Boy Jack” (Edward German), “When Children Play” (Walford Davies); Mr. C. Sherrill?, “Tho English Rose” (Edward German), “To Daisies” (Roger Quilter); quintette, Mrs. I. C. Boynes, Miss D. Junker, Messrs. A. Hamilton, L. Truscott and W. Tattle, “Love is Meant to Make us Glad” (Edward German); Miss J. Bovis, “Silver,” “To One Who Went Whistling Through the Night” (Armstrong Gibbs); Mrs. J. Curtis, “Our Lady’s Bedstraw” (Maude Baxter), “Child o’ Mine” (Thomas Dunhill); Miss D. Southey Baker, guest artist for tho evening, charmed the audience with violin solos, “Nell Gwyn Suite” (Edward German).

The accompanists were Mesdames B. F. Barlow, 11. Pierard, L. Lovelock, and Miss E. Eyre. At the conclusion of the programme supper was served by the hostesses, Mrs. and Miss J. Findlay.
