June Bride in Classic Gown of Satin

HOPCROFT—SMITH A pretty wedding celebrated at St. Andrew’s Church on June 21 was that of Doris Hannah, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Smith, of Tiritea Valiev, Palmerston North, and Allan Sinclair, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hopcroft, of Aokautere, Palmerston North. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A., 8.D., and Mr. A. J. Graham presided at the organ. Entering the church, beautified with whito heather and hydrangeas, escorted by her father, the bride was a winsome figure in her lovely gown of damns roinaine satin fashioned on slim-fitting lines. The cross-over bodice was ruched and finished with buttons from neck to waist, the tight-fitting sleeves pointed over the hands and the full skirt swept into a long train. A beautifully embroidered veil, which had been lent by her aunt, Mr. J. Strahan, was caught with a topknot of cream and wa' worn over the face entering the church, falling softly to form a second train. A bouquet of Easter lilies, chrysanthemums, roses and maidenhair fern piovided the finishing touch to a becoming toilette.

In, attendance as bridesmaids were the bride’s two sisters, Miss A. E. Smith (chief) and Miss M. Smith, also a friend, Miss IC. Arlidge. All three ’maids wore frocks of delphinium blue taffeta made in old-world style, with full circular skirts, the bodices baving rovers finished with buttons, full puffed sleeves and belts buttoned at the back. They wore veils of blue tulle caught with wreaths of blue and pink flowers, also blue shoes, and carried bouquets of pink heather, pink cyclamen, oink camellias and maidenhair fern. Mr. J. W. Hopcroft, brother of the bridegroom, carried out tho duties of best man, the groomsmen being Mr. N. Hopcroft, another brother, and Mr. J. Priestly, a cousin. The reception was held at Messrs. Collinson and Cunninghame’s rooms, where the artistic decorations were .tarried out with Iceland poppies and cyclamen. Mrs. Smith received over 100 guests wearing a wine ensemble trimmod with brown fur fabric and brown accessories, a wine peachblocm hat with eye veil, and her bouquet of cream roses and jonquils was set in maidenhair fern. Mrs. Hopcroft assisted, and she wore a navy tailored suit, navy peachbloom hat, fur stole and navy accessories, and carried a bouquet of red roses and violets encircled with maidenhair fern. The usual toasts were honoured, Miss Joan Andrews officiating at the piano. The handsome cake had been made by the bride’s aunt, Miss Strahan, of Apiti, and iced by Mrs. D. Watson, of Palmerston North. When the brido and bridegroom left by car on a tour of the North Island tho bride travelled in a green tailored suit with gold blouse, green hat and eye veil and accessories to tone, also a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom. She also carried a rust swing coat. Pre-wedding Parties Prior to her marriago Miss Smith was the guest of honour at several parties. Mrs. F. N. Andrews was hostess at an evening party at her home in Alan Street, when about 50 friends presented gifts for the bathroom. Tho Tiritea Women’ institute and district friends entertained the prospective bride at a “kitchen tea” held in tho Aokautere Hall. The hall was filled to capacity, tho guest of honour receiving Many beautiful presents. Mrs. R. D. Haselden, Tiritea, was hostess at an enjoyable “pantry afternoon” held at her home in honour of Miss Smith.

Prior to his marriage, Mr. A. Hopcroft was entertained in tho Aokautere Hall by a social evening arranged by the Methodist people of the district. Ho was presented with a beautifully bound Bible.

At a further social evening arranged by tho Aokautere Miniature Rifle Club Mr. roperoft was presented with a silver cake dish with the best wishes of tho members.

Mr. and Mrs. Hopcroft will in future reside iu Aokautere.
