HOPELANDS SCHOOL SEEKS FUNDS

With the aim expressed by Mr. A. East, chairman of the Hopelands School Committee during the evening, of raising money enough to permit considerable tree planting round tho school to mark the Centenary, a successful social was held on Saturday evening in the Hopelands School building. There was a large gathering of Hopelands and Kumeroa residents who greatly enjoyed the programme. Dancing was the main attraction though during the earlier part of the evening a number of items by the school children interspersed the dances. These items included recitations, national dancing, singing numbers and a tableau, all being creditably performed and recalled. Tho music for the dancing was played by Mr. G. Fairley while Air. J. Sargent played an extra. A liberal and pleasing supper was provided. During the evening Mr. East voiced the committee's pleasure at the success of the gathering and at once congratulated and thanked Mr. and Mrs. L. Hills for arranging it.
