UNINSPIRING FINAL LONDON, July 7. The American R. L. Riff* wan the final of the men’s singles at the Wimbledon tennis championships, defeating E. T. Cooke, also of America, in an uninspiring game -which went to five sets. Results: — MEN’S SINGLES Final. R. L. Riggs (U.S.A.) defeated E. T. Cooke (U.S.A.), 2-6, 8-6, 3-6, C-3, 6-2. Cooke led 4-1 in the second set, and then Riggs made an amazing recovery, but generally it was a disappointing match, and there was little enthusiasm. WOMEN S DOUBLES Fourth Round. Miss Stammers and Mrs Hammersley (Britain) defeated Miss Harvey and Mrs King 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Semi-final. Mrs Fabyan and Mis* MarbH (U.S.A.) defeated Miss Summers and Mrs Hammersley 8-6, 6-3. MEN'S DOUBLES. Semi-final. Hare and Wilde (Britain) defeated Shayes and Oliff (BriUin), 6-2, C-\ G-4. COMBINED DOUBLES Fifth Round. Malfroy (N.Z.) and Miss Nuthall (Britain) defeated Geelhand and Mrs Meulemeester, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Riggs and Miss Marble (U.S.A.) defeated Jones and Miss Harvey 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
