Snow in Hawke’s Bay

EARLY LAMB LOSSES FEARED Per Press Association. HASTINGS, July 9. Bitterly cold conditions prevailed throughout Hawkers Bay to-day with high winds and heavy falls of snow on the high country. Late in the afternoon snow began to fall in the southern end of the province, advancing north to the hills near Hastings. It is extremely likely that further falls will conic during the night as the temperature was dropping and clouds banking up. It is feared there will be losses of early lambs which for the last threo weeks have been making their appearance in substantial numbers. Heavy snow fell to-day on the NapierTaupo lload, the drifts being two feet deep in places. One car was held up for some hours in the snow, but the service cars are maintaining their schedules with difficulty. TARANAKI FREEZES IN COLD SNAP Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 9. A glassy smooth thin film of ice prevented more than 80 cars from being driven, up the North Egmont road today and many of Ike cars which did reach tho hostel had to be manhandled over the slippery section.
