V.R.C. Grand National Won by Giant Killer
Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 9. The results of the V.R.C. races at Flemington were:— GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE GIANT KILLER, 10.11 (R. Watts) . 1 Turf Boy, 12.0 (A. Fullarton) .... 2 Wakerife, 9.99 (N. Bracken) .... 3 Fifteen started. Giant Killer gave a surprising performance. He was last away but moved up swiftly and was in front a mile and a-half from homo where he cleared right away and won easily by five lengths with Wakerife three lengths away third. Time, 6.152* The fancied candidates Deckard and Grantley fell. W. Burke's stable trained the winners of the Grand National double including Greencßpe last Saturday. DOUTTS GALA HURDLE RACE. GREENCAPE, 10.13 (Dummett) .. 1 Cheery Jack, 10.5 (Windle) 2 Caperace, 10.1 (Sweetnan) 3 Five started. Cheery Jack actually won by hal| a head but was placed second on a successful protest. At Brisbane the .Doomben Cup resulted: Cooranga 8.1 (Parsons) 3; Hilarious 7.4 (Lappin) 2; Teringa 7.9 (Tebb) 3. Seventeen started, including The Squire which was fourth. Time, 2.192.
