EXCITING METROPOLITAN NEWSPAPER DRAMA State: Screening Tuesday next.) “Twelve Crowded Hours” marks the first time Richard Dix has portrayed a newspaper reporter since his memorable performance in “Cimarron.” The story is an exciting newspaper drama laid in a large metropolis where the well-known “numbers racket” is lining the pockets of an organised gambling ring. Richard Dix, as a crusading reporter, is carrying on a bitter campaign against the underworld 1 with fearless stories, when one of his : articles accidentally helps to convict his ’ sweetheart’s brother of a crime he didn’t commit. Dix is determined to clear the name of the young man, and to round-up the entire gang of racketeers. He traces down several murders and their clues lead him to the leader of the mob. Unfortunately, however, he has gained the disfavour of the police by | his single-handed tactics, and even his girl (Lucille Ball) misunderstands his motives. Dix baits a trap for tho chief, and finally succeeds iu [bringing the entire gang to justice.
