Makerua Drainage Board
MONTHLY MEETING Trustee H. Seifert presided at the monthly meeting of the Makerua Drainage Board on Thursday. Others present were: Trustees W. J. Ross, H. Alexander, G. Larsen, G. T. W. Clifford and W. Jackson. Tho overseer, Mr. P. V. Tucker, reported that the cleaning of the intersecting channel was still in progress, and Akers’ drain would be reached this week. There had been an exceptional growth of weeds this season, making a longer job. Where cattle had access heavy damage had been done. The practice of draining pig stys and cowsheds into the channel still continued, and strong reaction by the board was necessary to put a stop to this. In most cases the cleaning of drains by contract was progressing favourably. The re-eroction of the boundary fence between the board’s property and Mr. Wall's property was almost completed. The dismantling of old fences on the board’s property was being carried out. It would be necessary to continue with the protection of the upper portion of Page's Point at the earliest. The southern portion of Akers’ drain would be eleaned as soon as the intersecting channel was finished.
