Escape From Fire By Skylight Window

BLAZE AT GREYMOUTH Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, May 11. As the result of a fire at 4 a.m. to-day serious damago was done to tho interior of a brick building occupied by the Central Cafe. Mrs. Pope, the proprietress, her son, Mr. J. Pope, and a friend, Miss M. Coyne, of Westport, were sleeping at the rear of the premises and they escaped by a skylight. After a scramble over the roofs of adjoining buildings they were rescued with a ladder. The fire brigade made a good save. The fire started in tho kitchen, which was gutted. The dining-room was damaged by smoke, water and heat. Only a little damage was done to the back of the premises. Although tho insurances aro £1250 on tho building aud £2OO on the stock and fittings Mrs. Poi»e is a heavy loser.
