Parapara Highway Reconstruction
TWO YEARS’ WORK YET Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Last Night. The Parapara highway leading from Wanganui to the centre of tho island, has been the scene of much reconstruction work of a major nature during the past two years, and tho work is now well advanced toward the boundary between the Wanganui and Waimarino Counties. Most of the work consists of eliminating dangerous bcuds, involving large fillings and the diverting of streams in which tunnelling is adopted in papa to save the cost of bridges. Work on the highway will continue for at least two years, and a survey has been made of the Waimarino County end to include major works. Two miles of the highway are tar sealed, and pro parations are in hand for an extensive sealing programme next summer.
