From Our Own Correspondent. Cribbaae Shield The first match for the Cribbage Sheild for the 1939-40 season was played at Mangaore on Tuesday night, when 14 visitors from Shannon were present. The match resulted in a win for Shannon, who won 38 games to Mangaore’s 32. Golf At Mangaore— The Stapleford handicap was won last Saturday by R. Ilarding. with a score of 30. Miss Clayton and Miss Smith tied in the ladies’ section. On Saturday next (May 13) the May medal will be played for. This is also the first qualifying round for the championship games which arc being held this year. The committee decided this week to have a senior and junior championship cup for ladies and men, the Wise Cup and the Gunning trophy, to be played for on handicap lines similar to last year. New members are especially asked to turn out on Saturday in order to have all handicaps arranged. Mr. A. Wilson has presented a trophy tu be played for by primary school members, and Mrs. R. Graham one for the best eclectic score (men). These gentlemen were warmly thanked by the president (Mr. A. Blackwood) for their kindness. Dr. Jim and Mrs. Hennessy, who a few months ago arrived from England with the idea of settling in New Zealand, have* decided to go to Melbourne, where the doctor will follow his profession. After being the guests of his brother, Mr. Jack, and Mrs. Hennessy, East Road, they left on Monday for Wellington and on Thursday will sail for Australia by the Wanganella. Although still confined to her bed, the postmaster’s wife, Mrs. A. Semple, is progressing favourably. Mrs. Semple had the misfortune while riding her bicycle along Venn Street last Thursday to collide with a car. She was thrown heavily on to the bitumen and suffered concussion and a severe bruising. Mr. and Mrs. A. McSweeney left last Saturday to spend the school holidays with relatives at Weber. BuckDy Ladies’ Golf There was another well attended ladies' day at the links on Tuesday last. Mrs. D. 1-liggie, a this season's beginner, obtained her handicap, making the eleventh handicap player in the club. Several other members are on the point of qualifying for their handicap. Next Saturday there will be the monthly medal round fur seniors and a medal round tor C grade players. Partners will be drawn at the clubhouse at 1.15 p.m.
