Court Officer Farewelled

PRESENTATIONS TO MR. A. R. C. CLARIDGE Mr. A. R. C. Claridge, of tho staff of the Palmerston North Court who has been transferred on promotion to II awera, was bid farewell yesterday by his associates who presented him with a barometer as a parting gift. In making the presentation, Mr. H. B. Reid, registrar, said Mr. Claridge’s departure after only 13 months, was regretted but other members of the staff must congratulate him on his promotion and wish him the best of luck for the future. Mr. Claridge had performed his Supreme Court duties with credit. Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., who was unable to be present, sent an appropriate message. In thanking the staff for their gift, Mr. Claridge spoke of the pleasant associations he had had with them. Yesterday afternoon Mr. Claridge also received a parting gift iu the form of cake and entree dishes in silver, from tho Palmerston North branch of the Law Society. In making tho presentation, Mr. J. M. Gordon, president, said members appreciated what Mr. Claridge had done for them and considered his promotion had been well deserved. They trusted he would go quickly up the ladder.

In thanking members of the society, Mr. Claridge said he had come to Palmerston North after 13 years in a Magistrate’s Court and wondered if he would be able to pick up the threads of Supreme Court work. It was therefore a pleasure to know that what he had done had been apxireciated. His stay in Palmerston North had been so pleasant that it would give him pleasure to return if need be, at some future date.

Mr. J. T. A. Beaumont, of Wellington, who succeeds Mr. Claridge, takes up his duties to-day.
