Takaro Progressive Association
ANNUAL MEETING Mr. E. H. Smith presided at the annual meeting of tho Takaro Progressive Association on Monday evening. There was au attendance of 25 residents of the district. The annual balance sheet showed an income of £55 19s 5d and an expenditure of £3O 8s 4d. The membership of the association was 350. If any sports club iu the district needed help, said Mr. Smith, the association would be only too pleased to help financially, if at all possible. The association had assisted basketball and cricket, but the latter was not a successful venture as the material had been lost and destroyed. The secretary of the Manawatu Hockey Association, Mr. R. A. Brace, sought the support of the associatiou in an endeavour to have a shelter provided at Takaro Park for women hockey players.
The chairman said he felt sure the association was prepared to make available any help it could in providing a pavilion, not only for hockey players, but for participants in all games. Mr. P. T. Jamieson, a member of the association, presented a challenge cup to be competed for annually for the best kept residence, as viewed from the road. The trophy was presented by Mr. H-. Wykes, of 57 Bryant Street.
The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. E. H. Smith; vicepresidents, Messrs. J. Wass and W. P. Ellis; honorary auditor, Mr. G. J. Robinson; secretary-treasurer, Mr. J. H. Crib; committee, Messrs. P. T. Jamieson, H. Wykes, E. B. Borham, H. L. Wykes, J. W. Spooner and R. Packer, and Mesdames D. Evans, P. T. Jamieson, J. W. Spooner, J. Denham, R. Packer and J. Wass.
