From Our Own Correspondent. Tbe first of a series of euchre rartics wan held under the auspices of the hall committee on Wednesday last, about fifty attending. Prizes were awarded as follow: Ladies, Mrs T. Shalders; sealed prize, Mrs W. E. Hill; men, Mr E. Hill; sealed prize. Mr Bradmont. The prizes were donated by Mrs W, E. Baker and Mr H. Thurston. After supper dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs P. It. Simpson and Mr A. Roberts. The recent heavy rains were received with great satisfaction in Makino, where the drought conditions were assuming a serious aspect. Already the countryside Is looking greener, and farmers are attacking their daily tasks with much more enthusiasm, while many housewives are enjoying the novelty of seeing the indoor taps running once again. During the previous weeks many settlers were employing the enforced leisure hours in renovations around the homes and sheds, and several houses, as well as the local church, are looking bright under new coats of paint.
