Barometers are high over the North Island, but are falling rapidly in the far south with the approach of a very deep westerly depression. The centre of the disturbance, however, appears likely to pass to the south of the Dominion. Winds: Light and variable at first over the North Island. Otherwise north-westerly prevailing and rising to gale force later in many places about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Becoming rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight, but rising somewhat on the east coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light westerly winds and slight seas in the far north; elsewhere strong north-west to west winds to gales, with rough seas and seas becoming high in the south. Weather: Fair to fine at first, but rain soon developing in western and southern portions of the South Island, and later extending northward, possibly as far as the King Country.
