“Even Worse Than Expected”
BRITISH REACTION TO THE NEW RESTRICTIONS United JTess Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 10.20 p.m. LONDON, April 25. The Federation of British Industries is meeting at the earliest opportunity to consider New Zealand’s import cuts. Many businessmen expressed the opinion that the restrictions are even worse than expected. The Financial Times raises the point of whether under the Ottawa Agreements there should not have been prior consultation. The Financial News says the cuts represent good news for bondholders, not only because they will conserve New Zealand’s London funds but because they indicate that the Government is prepared to modify its mistaken policy which has been responsible for the trouble.
