Constable Injured When Car Goes Over Bank
WIFE SERIOUSLY HURT From Our Own Corresoondent. PAHIATUA, Last Night. Constable C. W. Gainey and his wife, of Pongaroa, suffered injury when thoir car overturned down a ten-foot bank on the Pahiatua side of the Toritea Hill, about four miles from the town on the Makuri Road at about 11.45 a.m. on Monday. Constable Gainey was on his wa y to Pahiatua with his wife when tho car got out of control and ran over tho bank, coming to rest upside down at the foot of it. The accident was witnessed by the driver of a transport lorry, who had just passed Constable Gainey, and who phoned for a doctor and an ambulance. Two faultmen of tho P. and T. Department who arrived shortly afterwards assisted Constable Gainey to extricate his wife, who was in a semi-conscious condition. Both were attended by Dr. H. Paterson and Mrs. Gainey was brought to the Pahiatua Public Hospital by ambulance. Both Constable and Mrs. Gainey were suffering from cuts and abrasions, but the total extent of Mrs. Gainey’s injuries is not yet known.
