The season therefore closed without any special function. Jubilee Committee. Presided over by the chairman. Mr R. Law, a well-attended and enthusiastic meeting of the general committee in charge of the arrangements for celebrating the jubilee of the Shannon school in July next, was held on Thursday night. The secretary, Air J. T. Bovis, slated that he had invited representatives of the Alaori l’ace to be present at the meeting, and that Alessrs Tohi Kohika and T. liopohama had come along; also two new members in the persons of Miss J. Roach and Air W. Moynihan. Mr Bovis then dealt with the balance sheet in detail, which showed a credit balance of £5 »s 6d. The Secretai-y stated that lie had notified the Tourist Department of the date of the jubilee in order that it might be included in the Department’s calendar. Mr Hyde suggested that a committee, to be styled the “Ways and Means Committee” be formed to raise at least £SO. it I was agreed that this was an excellent 1 suggestion, and the following were appointed to raise the necessary finance; Alessrs A. E. Hyde (convenor). R. Downes, H. B. Morrow and Tohi Kohika, and Al.esdanies Leng Ward and Pedei’sen, with power to add. Stressing the necessity of wider publicity, Mr Law suggested the, newspapers as the ideal medium to thisj

end. Mr Murrow disagreed on the grounds that this would entail a big expense, as it would be necessary to advertise in all the leading papers in the Dominion. Air Hyde suggested that a committee be set up to consider the advertising and that a definite sum be set aside for this purpose. This met with the approval of the meeting, and Alessrs R. Law, H. B. Alurrow and J. T. Bovis were appointed to make arrangements for advertising. There appeared to have been some misunderstanding in connection with the wording of the decision to grant each donor of £1 or over, two complimentary tickets fr the banquet and two for the dance. However, it was considered that this was clear enough, and it was not altered. It was decided to approach Mesdames Pedersen, J. A. Easton, F. Whibley and Clayton to ascertain if they would be willing to recommend a suitable dance committee, and to request them to report progress to the next general meeting. The following were appointed to make arrangements for tho banquet: Messrs R. Law, W. Moynihan, C. Guerin, G. Mitchell A. E. Hyde, T. Ropohama, C. Spiers, R. Thwaites and Mrs J. A. Easton, with power to add. It was re solved to write to Mr S. Shedden, expressing appreciation of his valuable work in connection wits the preliminary arrangements for the jubilee, and tho hope that he might be able to attend. The next meeting iof the committee will be held shortly after the school re-opens after the term holidays on Alay 29. the last Alonday in the month. Following the general meeting, a short meeting of the ways and means committee I was held, and tentative arrangements | made for a campaign to raise the required rapital. There is a possibility of a seven-a-side football tournament being staged shortly, and the school staff Is being approached with a view to arranging a school concert.
