Pretty Wedding at St. Peter’s Church

SMITH —MATTHEWS Friendly interest was evidenced in a pretty wedding celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, Terraco End, on Saturday, April 15, when Joan Isabelle, elder daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Matthews, was married to Janies Stephen, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith. Canon Stephenson (uncle of the bride) performed the ceremony and Mr. K. W. Matthews (also an uncle of the bride) gave her in marriage. The church had been artistically decorated in autumn shaded chrysanthemums and dahlias by friends of the bride. A becoming gown of parchment satin and a long tulle veil with a coronet of orange blossoms were worn by the bride, who carried a shower bouquet of gladioli, carnations, freesias and maidenhair fern. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Rita Smith (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Mary Matthews (sister of the bride), who wore delightful redingote frocks of maize georgette over flowered taffeta. They woro half circlets of flowers in their hair and carried autumn-tinted bouquets of chrysanthemums. Mr. R. Jounneaux, of Whangarei, was the best man. A reception was held at the Bosco tea-rooms after the ceremony. Miss H. E. Akers (aunt Of the bride) received the guests wearing a navy frock and hat relieved with pink and carrying a pink bouquet. Mrs. Smith (mother of the bridegroom) wore a black and white frock and carried a bouquet of scarlet flowers. When the. bride left for her honeymoon she wore a smart navy coat and skirt with a blue Hungarian blouse embellished with pleasant embroidery and navy hat and accessories. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Smith will reside at Taih&pe.
