■ ~ f effort was a thriller, for she gained on . the leader with every stride and she was less than half a length away at tho post. The order was much the same throughout, the pacemaker being Mother-in-Law from Sudan and Patches. Patches was in second place at tho three, where the pace was increased and Old Bill moved up alongside Sudan. This is how they turned for home, where Old Bill slowly worked to tho front. He looked to have the race won but Sudan eventually got out and she made a close decision of it. Patches was only a length away third, and Mother-in-Law three lengths further back. Great Effort "by Red Cat \ Red Cat was favourite for tho hack sprint and she again demonstrated her liking for the course by winning attractively from Jhcynth, who stumbled and recovered right on the judge’s line, and Thrasos, who finished very soundly. When tho field had settled down, Jcanno was in front , followed bv Jacynth, Red Cat, Huntino, Thrasos, j Elettra and Golden Flame. Jeanne! drifted crossing tho top and Jacynth, Red Cat, Huntino and Jcanno was the order into tho straight. Well below the distance Red Cat had headed Jacynth and, despite her weight, she finished I strongly to win by a length and -ahalf. Thrasos came with a late run to finish a short neck sway from Jacynth Imogen finished on into fourth plact/ and next home were Jeanne and Joo Louis, with a gap to Huntino. Readers who propose to attend the Wanganui races will be pleased to learn that suitable arrangements have been made regarding train services and cheap fares.
