Bequest to Massey College

Under tho will of Mr. William Reed, late of Palmerston North, probate of which was recently granted by the Supreme Court, deceased bequeathed to the council of Massey College tho sum of £ISOO to prvido an annual scholarship to be competed for by boys who are pupils of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, the scholarships to be / designated “Tho William Reod Scholarships.” The late Mr. Reed was noted for the charitable bequests he made during his lifetime including one of £2OOO to the All Saints’ Children’s Home, and this bequest further emphasises tho philanthropic character of Mr. Reed, who was one of the most public spirited and respected citizens of this city. According to Mr. C. S. Coll, secretary of the Minister of Health and Homo Affairs, Queensland, who has completed a month ’3 holiday visit to the Dominion, New Zealand racecourses arc of a higher general average than those of Australia. Mr. Coll said that he took a keen interest in racing, and had visited the principal courses in Australia and New Zealand. “I consider the Trentham course better than anything wo have in Australia,” ho said.

“This applies to tho general ajjpointments and surroundings, but principally to tile stands.
