Manawatu Electorate

MR. C. L. HUNTER AT RANGIOTU On Tuesday night Mr. C. L. Hunter, Labour candidate for the Manawatu 'seat, addressed the electors at Rangiotu. There was a large attendance over which Mr. Beard presided. The candidate made a brief reference to the National Party’s policy which, in his opinion, must have been very disappointing to their supporters. The previous Government had said that it would reduce taxation, but what had it done? It had cut down the old-age pensions, stopped the five-year-olds from going to school and had reduced the grants to every social service. Tho candidate was satisfied that the National Party -would never get an opportunity to do such things again. An organised attempt was made to disturb the meeting, but Mr. Hunter had no difficulty in handling the situation. Friends had prepared supper, but Mr. Hunter regretted not being able to remain, as he had to return to Feilding to attend Mr. Lee’s meeting.
