League Members Enjoy Social Afternoon
ONE-ACT PLAY PRESENTED Gold was the predominant colour in the floral decorations at the Empire Hall yesterday afternoon when the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers was held. Mrs. A. McPherson presided over a large gathering and welcomed a number of visitors. The meeting commenced with the singing of the Doxology—in gratitude that the world had been spared another war. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames L. Petrie (convener), L. Biro, Burgess, A. T. Bedinglield, A. Clark, J. Candy, H. M. Crawford, Coleman, Collins, P. Cox, C. Cater, J. Cribb, W. L. Cutten, A. Cooksley, G. Cooper, Child and Dilks, and Mrs. E. Herron welcomed members at the door. Mesdames A, Mclver, F. Anderson and J. Waugh were responsible for the decorations. Mrs. McPherson welcomed an olci member in Mrs. Currin (Napier), also Mrs. McGuiness (Eltham), and Mrs. s. Brougham back after a recent illness. Items by the Glee Club, led by Mrs. O. Christiansen and accompanied by Mrs. D. Williams were enjoyed, Mrs. E. McKain singing the solo. Miss Doris Moore gave much pleasure with a bracket of vocal items. She was accompanied by Mrs. L. O. Jones. Mrs. McPherson reported that she and Mrs. Drake had seen Mesdames G. G. Hancox, C. Waters and G. G. Campbell at the provincial meeting held recently in Wellington. Mrs. V. Underwood was welcomed as a member on transfer from the Wellington Central Branch of the League of Mothers. The happy thought for the day was given by Mrs. F. O’Connor. A delightful selection of poems and a humorous story was read by Mrs. Mrs. McKain. A feature of the afternoon’s entertainment was a one-act play produced by Mrs. O. Christianson, the players being Mesdames V. Stagpoole, J. Benwick, N. Humphrey, B. Annabell, F. Lucas, B. Moxon, and Miss -B. W. Killick. Mrs. K. Koberstein passed a vote or thanks to the hostesses and artists and Mrs. McPherson thanked the players for their enjojyable contribution to the programme. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mesdames H. Whittaker, H. Finch. E. W. Drake and F. Wilkinson who are indisposed. Members were reminded that the next meeting would take the form of a flower day and roll call and contributions of flowers and items were solicit-
