WATERSIDE UNION AND ITS FUNDS Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. The following motion was carried at a meeting of Wellington waterside workers on Tuesday: “This meeting of the Wellington waterside workers emphatically resents the attack made by Mi S. G. Holland, M.P., on the waterside workers of New Zealand, and challeng es him to prove his statements tha compulsory levies have been impose by the New Zealand Waterside Work ers’ Union for either the Standard oi the New Zealand Labour Party. Mem bers of the New Zealand Waterside workers throughout the Dominion have paid levies and they have done so vol ontarily. Every member who subscribes to the Standard receives a share certificate if he requires, and wiiatevex subscriptions are made to the Labour Party s campaign fund are purely vol -intary and not compulsory. “The Waterside Workers’ Union is a democratic institution, and if a member desires to contribute to the National I ’ ;, rty s campaign fund the secretary will be pleased to forward the amount subscribed to Messrs Holland, Polsoi Eirdean or Hamilton. Waterside work* ers impose no restrictions whatever on matters of this kind. Members of this branch, however, realise that it is essential for the welfare of the people of New Zealand to retain present Government in power, and they will again if required subscribe to the New Zealand Labour Party in order to eifeci this purpose, for in doing so they realise they are acting in the best interests of the pccDle of this country,**
