Palmerston North Chosen

ANNUAL MEETING OF NJS. SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS For the first time Palmerston North will be the venue for the annual general meeting of tho New Zealand Bocioty of Accountants, about tho end of Februarynext year. Mr. E. Davis (representative of the Wellington North district) made a strong plea for Palmerston North at yesterday’s meeting of tho council of tho society. Ho remarked that the Manawatu city was centrally situated, so that members of the Wanganui, Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay and other districts of the North Island could be easily able to attend the meeting, and members from the South Island would not have a long journey from Wellington. It would be very beneficial for the society and profession of accountancy generally to give a large number of country members an opportunity to attend an important meeting of the society. Mr. AV. R. Brown (Dunedin) said that Mr. Davis would be retiring from the council next year after a long period of faithful, efficient service. It was therefore very fitting that the meeting should bo held in his city as a tribute to his honourable record. He moved that the request should be granted. Mr. C. H. Wynyard (New Plymouth) remarked that the turn of Taranaki lor an annual meeting was due some time ago, but he cheerfully agreed with Mr. Brown’s view' that Mr. Davis deserved to have the fixture at Palmerston. The motion was carried unanimously
