FAREWELL TO PASTOR PAGE Farewell tributes to the work in Feilding of Pastor and Mrs. Page, who are about to take their departure for tho new charge at Waihi, were made at gatherings held by the Baptist Church interests. At a gathering of the Baptist Women’s Mission Union to farewell Mrs. Page, Miss E. G. Shearer occupied the chair and during the proceedings items were rendered by Mrs. Cox, Misses Eade and Stewart, little Miss Barbara Eade, Auarey Firth and Doreen O’Neill.

During the afternoon, Miss Shearer presented Mrs. Page with a travelling rug and crystal vase as a small token of the women’s love.

Mrs. 0. E. Taylor spoke on behalf of the Methodist ladies, and Mrs. Tremaine represented the Salvation Army, and Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Mills, the P.W.M.TJ. Each speaker voiced the high regard in which Mrs. Page was held by all and her contribution to the Christian community since her coming to Feilding, and the regret that was felt for her leaving.

With afternoon tea this sociable gathering gradually dispersed. On Tuesday evening the members and friends of the local Baptist Church accorded a farewell social to Pastor and Mrs. H.W, Page, who will continue their services in Waihi. Ministers from Wanganui, Gonville, Wanganui East and Palmerston North with Rev. J. H. Allen (Methodist) and Major Brown (Salvation Army) spoke in high appreciation of Mr. Page and his work, fhs secretary conveying a verbal message from Rev. A. L. Dixon (Presbyterian). Musical items were contributed by Wanganui and Palmerston North visitors and also by Mrs. Beavis and Mr. Page (duet), Mr. Ron. Page (solo), Miss Eade, Messrs Whitehead, W. A. Eade and Ron. Eade (quartette). The secretary expressed the gratitude felt by those who have been receiving the benefit conferred by a minister who had done well in every phase of his work. Mr. J. Wratt, senior elder, presented Mr. Page with a substantial cheque, including in his remarks some verses from Dr. Bonar’s well-known hymn, “Go Labour On.” Mr. and Mrs. Page having voiced their regret in leaving such good friends, Rev. E. Nicholls, who had so pleasantly acted as chairman, concluded the social rally with prayer. A general supper followed, and finally all had gone, not to forget this memorable gathering.
