From Our Own Correspondent During the month of Juiy rain fell locally on 15 days, a total of 2.97 inches be- ‘ ing recorded. The maximum fall was 1.11 inches on Sunday the 3rd. The hottest day was Saturday the 2nd., with a temperature of 54 degrees and the coldest day Friday, the Bth, with 32 degrees. Personal, The friends of Miss Jean McKenzie will regret to learn that she is an inmate of tli© Palmerston North Hospital. She underwent an operation earlier in the week for appendicitis and is reported to be progressing satisfactorily, Mr J. M. Thompson, of Thynne street, intends leaving Foxton at an early date for New Plymouth, where he has acquired a business. Mr F. C. Brady, of the local Post Ofilco staff, has applied for a. transfer to Napier for health reasons and, together with his family, will probably be leaving Foxton at an early date. Horticultural Society. At the annual meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society Captain J. R. Middleton presided. The president gave a review of the past year’s activities and intimated that he would not bo able to take an active part in the Society’s affairs in the coming year owing to pressure of business and lie thanked members for the support accorded him during his three years of office. It was decided to hold the spring show in September, the date to be fixed at a committee meeting to be held next week, when arrangements wil also b© mad© for stewards and judges. Mr Christie suggested that in future shows should be held in the Town Hall supper-room. He said that the hall proper was about the worst building the Society could get from a lighting point of view and it was far too big for the purpose.
