Manawatu and Oroua Rivers

MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs J. Callesen (in the chair), B. G. Gower, H. Seifert, T. D. Lynch, W. Jackson, S. Parsons and R. J. Law. Reporting on a recent deputation to the Minister of works, the chairman states that Mr Semple had promised that an inspection should be made by one of his engineers of danger spot.that were causing the board concern. In regard to a fear that the Minister might bo intending to abolish river boards, Mr Semple had assured the deputation that he had no such intention in regard to the Manawatn-Oroua board. Unfortunately, added the chairman, the engineer who had been deputed to make the inspection was away from the district at the present time and it was not known when he would bo back. The board decided to write stressing the urgency of the matter. It was decided to give notice to a settler to cut back willows growing on a river bank. It was decided to give public notice of the board ’a intention to strike special rates for the current year similar to those of last year, with the exception of No. 3 area, which is to bo Id. less.
