HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Successful Year Reviewed ANNUAL MEETING HELD At the annual meeting of the above society on Thursday evening last, the president, Mr. a. Turn Dun, presided, and the oaiance-siieet and tne report reading as follows, were adopted: — Starting the year with a credit balance o± £37 Js 4d, and finishing witn a credit oi £SO IVs Bd, the WoodviJlo Horticultural Society experienced a most successiul year. Two shows were field (.November and March), the latter showing a small loss. The society's Jubilee Cup was won outright by Mr. Graham, but that gentleman donated a trophy for competition in the home industries section. Appreciation was expressed of the work of the president (Mr. fc>. Turnbull), who also donated goods for each show, which realised a sum of £8 I6s. Mrs. Morris had also been & donor oi articles; and Mr. J. Tanner had very generously donated £5 to the local school for the children's classes at the next show. Thanks are due also to Mrs. James, for the use of the meeting room; the pupils oi the school, and to Messrs. W* F. Fossette (headmaster) and B. Hurdle of the school stall. The president expressed complete satisfaction with the report, and fie and others praised the zeal of the secretarytreasurer, Mr. P. E. Anslow, whose efforts, he said, were largely responsible for the society s excellent position. Others eulogised also the work of the president. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Mr. T. F. Fountaine; president, Mr. S. Turnbull; vice-presidents, Mesdames James, H. Giles, Messrs. H. Mills, J. Tanner and A. Eades, committee, Messrs. A. H. Hustwick, L. Walker, H. Hammond, R. Hurdle, T. Jamieson, B. Hutchings, A. Eades and Mesdames G. L. Hartridge, H. Hill, B. Hutchings, H. Mills, Warnock, Misses J. Beattie, Kirkpatrick end Peebles; auditor, Mr. L. J. Whittington; secretary, Mr. P. Anslow. Miss Matheson and Mr. S. Goldsack were elected members. It was decided to hold the next show towards the end of November. Votes of thanks were passed to the officers and all helpers.
