Amateur Road Race
The race conducted ou iSaturday by the Manawatu Amateur Cycling Club was* over a distance of 47 miles, the course being over the Feilding-Hal-combe circuit. Fifteen riders competed. The conditions were very cold, rain being met with for most of the journey. Three riders withdrew during the race. McCardle, who was one of these riders, was unfortunate as he was in a good position when ho broko his chain. The winner was E. Wilson, of Feilding, a rider who has been improving with each race. He just managed to stall off a challenge from O. Campbell to win and also to secure fastest time honours. The results were as follows: E. Wilson (SJmiu.) 1 O. Campbell (B*min.) 2 H. Rogers (Cmin.) .. g fastest times: E. Wilson (2hrs. 6mins. losees.), 0. Campbell 2hrs. 6mins. 15 2-ssecs.). Next week the club .is holding an open race over a distance of 28 miles and a good entry from outside clubs is expected in view of the increase in value of trophies. These races which are held every month are very popular and the club's policy in augmenting this event is to be commended as it gives their members tho opportunity of riding against members of other clnbs, this should be to their advantage in future events which are set down to take place very shortly in this district.
