From Our Own Correspondent. Rifle Club’s Annual Dance. Always one of the highlights of the dancing sea-snn, the annual grand danc* of the Pohangina Valley Defence Rifle Club held in the Raumai hall on Tuesday evening last, was a worthy successor to a long list of social successes. The function was well attended, all the surrounding districts being represented, besides & number of riflemen from neighbouring clubs Led by their energetic secretary, Mr c Gavin, the riflemen mad© perfect hosts, aud the danco will live long in the memory of those who attended Suppe? arrangements were in the hands of an efficient committee. Spirited music was rendered by a city orchestra.ard a number of novelty dances added zest to the evening The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr I Neill. Mr J. D. Balmer president of the club, welcomed the guests and, before presenting the trophies won during the season, made reference to tine splendid performance of one of th% club s members, Mr M. FitzHerberc. who secured second place in the Manawatu representative team. The speaker thanked all who had donated trophies and wished the club every' success In the coming season. The trophies were presented as follows: Ladies’ shoot, Mrs A. Balmer; Mr J. MacDonald's trophy, Aliss J. Balmer; Miss Akers (patroness) trophy R. Alontgomery; president’s trophy, Al. Fitz Herbert; Air \V. Howell’s trophy, L Neill; Mr Grove's trophy, W. Paine; Mrs McCarty’s trophy, J. Spelinan; Fitzsimmons cup and miniature, for open aggre gate, Al. Fitz Herbert; J. J. Robert’s trophy, handicap aggregate, F. Short; rose bowl, I. Neill. Euchre Party. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly’ euchre party held at Pohangina on Saturday evening. Prizes were won as follow; Ladies, Airs A. Balmer 1, Airs orgias 2; men, Mr J. Moar 1. Mr F. Vagstatf 2. The ladies’ prizes were donated by Mrs Watson, to whom Mr Orgias expressed tho thanks of the committee. After supper a short dance was held. Debating. Scheduled to take place in the near future, a debate has been arranged be tween members of the Pohangina Young Farmers’ Club and the Pohangina Valley branch of the Farmers’ Union. The subject is “Is woman’s place the home?”
