From Our Own Correspondent. The birthday function of the Ohakea Women’* Institute held recently was well attended by residents and visitors from other Institutes. Tho early part of the evening was taken up with a. concert programme as follows: Community singing; led by Mr Keene> ; humorous rtionologues, Mrs Churchill (Kongotea); piano duet. During supper, served by the institute members, the birthday cake candles were lit by Mrs "Will (an executive member), and blown out by the oldest member (Mrs Harris). Mrs B. Frecklington, president, asked Mrs Hillman and Mrs Churchill to cut the cake, which was made and presented by Mrs J. Capstick and Iced by Miss Nathalie Capstick. Birthday greetings were received from Martini Junction, Sanson. Cheltenham, Rongotea, Bulls, Piarewanui, and HaJoornbe institutes. The Federation members and all visiting entertainers were presented with shoulder sprays • by Mrx. B. i-'recklington. The floor was then cleared for dancing, which was continued until a late hour. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr Hazelwood and partner. Personal and General. Mr and Mrs H. J. Falnier have returned from a holiday in RoU-t ua. Mrs Lassen has been tho guest of her daughter, Airs H. Master*. for a few days. Air and Mrs I. N. Beet were the guests lor the week end of Mrs C. K. Taylor, oi l’almerston North. Mr T. Tremain, who met with an unjortunate accident when he was caught in belting in the milking shed and suiter•d a painful fracture ot the arm, has re turned home from hospital. So far there have oetn no casoe of measles in this district and the school attendance has been well maintained. The cairn and dry weather during the past fortnight has been of great benefit to the early lambs, of whicn there are many now. It is a hmg time since such * heavy fall of snow took place in the district as that which fell on Friday evening. After one of the bleakest of days, during which a bitterly southerly blew, snow began to fall heavily in the early evening and continued for some time.
