Shipments of Stud Stock Abroad

In addition to a shipment of 56 head of Lincolns, Corriedales, Romneys and Southdowns recently made to South America from stud flocks in the Gisborne, Wairarapa, Southland, Canter- | bury, Manawatu and Marlborough districts, Messrs. Wright Stephenson and I Co. Ltd., recently shipped an excellent ! line of 100 in-lamb Southdown ewes from the well-known registered flock of Colonel John Findlay, Ashburton, to a client in West Australia. This expensive line, despite the transhipping jand extra handling involved, eventual - |ly landed in good order. Another verj high class lot of 50 Southdown ewes, comprising one and two-shear, mostly sired by Ford Christian (imp) and Ford Dandy (imp), were recently sold to Messrs. Bennett and Fisher, South Australia, from the well-known flock of Mr R. M. Perry, Masterton. To a New South Wales client a very fine line of 60 young ewes, bred in the widelyknown flock of Mr E. M. Hare, Cheltenham, were also shipped. They also arrived in good order, and gave every satisfaction. Another extensive order, approximating 100 ewes in lamb, largely of the well-known Killeymoon blood, were also sold in two lots on of Mr A. K. Anderson, Stanway, to Victorian clients. Half of these ewes were in lamb to the imported ram, Sandringham 38 of 35. Fifty three ewe hoggets from the same flock were also sold to Messrs. Bennett and Fisher, South Australia. A very nice line of one-shear ewes, bred by Mr A. E. Weld, of Marlborough, was also shipped to a Victorian client.

A shipment of stud Corriedales which were selected recently from the noted Bushey Park Stud at Palmerston South and which were a Tepeat order for the West Australian pioneer breeder, Mr W. S. Hedges, of Highland Valley, comprised 50 cast-for-age ewes in lamb and a one-shear stud ram of outstanding merit. The latter Tam is considered to be one of the best specimens of tho breed that has been exported from the Dominion for many years. Advice has just been received that this consignment arrived at their destination in splendid order and have given the greatest satisfaction to the purchaser. A very attractive lots of 40 one and two-shear Corriedale ewes, bred by Mr J. W. Johnston, Eiffelton, Canterburv, were shippedd recently to a New South Wales client. These ewes were in lamb to good sires, and met with the keen approval of the buyer on arrival at their destination.

Reports from South Africa indicate that the shipment of Romney ewes sent last year from the well-known flock of Messrs R. and M. Gray, Masterton, have done exceptionally well, and a recent shipment of a further 30 oneshear Romney ewes was recently made from Mr J. A. Mitchell *e noted Santa Rosa Romney Stud at Longburn. These were shipped to Durban. A number o? Romney sires were also shipped to the same destination, and a special stud Corriedale ram, bred by the Estate of H. T. Little, Hui Hui, Wood grove, Canterbury, was recently shipped to Kenya. In the same widely-known flock two special stud ram hoggets are now being prepared for shipment to a leading breeder in the United States. It is some years since Corriedales were exported to that part of the world. Interest in New Zealand Romneys continues to grow overseas, and an other recent shipment of one-shea? Romney ewes of excellent type was from the MaDgamaire Stud, Pahiatua of Mr J. E. Hewitt. The destinatior. of this consignment was South Aus tralia. Advice has been received of the safe arrival in West Australia of a recent consignment of three Berkshires, a stud boar and two sows, for the Muresk Agricultural College in that state; an<! of three stud Polled Hereford heifers bred by Mr F. Humphreys, Wilencote Gisborne, in Tasmania. The latter landed particularly well, despite the fact that they had a very long trip, via Auckland and Melbourne. The purchase has also just been completed of a Friesian sire for a Tasmanian breeder. This bull, an outstanding yearling bred bv Mr C. Knutson, Dalefield, Wairarapa, is to be shipped this week.
