P.N. Literary and Debating Society
INTERESTING PROGRAMME PRESENTED "Authors or Poets that appeal to me most - ’ was the subject chosen for the prepared speeches section at last evening’s meeting of the Palmerston North Literary and Debating Society. The speakers were Miss M. Pearson and Mr. G. Oates. Air. T. C. Watson presided over a good attendance and accorded the new secretary, Air. P. H. Parr, a welcome, also extending the thanks of the society to the ladies who served supper at the last meeting. The debate for the evening was one of topical interest, the subject being "That tho Tiritea water supply is adequate and suitable." The speakers were Messrs H. J. King, D. Kilgour, Mrs. J. S. Hornblow, and Messrs IV H. Parr, S. Pratt and Aliss McLaren. The adjudicator was Mr. G. Crossley, who awarded the decision in favour of the affirmative side of the debate. The prepared speeches section was won by Miss Pearson. The 8. M. Carlton medal for the best speaker in the debate was won by Mr A. C. Phillpot, and the King cup for the best speaker in the prepared speeches section was won by Misa Pearson.
