2834 State Houses
COMPLETED OR IN HAND Per Press Association. 1 ’HRISTCHURCH. Aug. 3. The progress of the Government*! housing scheme was outlined by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage. in a statement to-day. The total number of houses undei instruction in New Zealand under th» State scheme was 1834 and houses completed 1000, making a total of 2834. The number of houses advertised for contracts to date is 4563. and work is proceeding in 71 towns throughout the Dominion. The total number of men actually employed on housing construction Is now 4854. Mr Savage explained that the Housing Department had now reached the stage of calling for approximately 100 houses a week.
