Motor-cycling Notes
ANNUAL CLUB MEETING (By “Twist Grip.”) To-morrow evening the annual meeting of the Manawatu-Orion Motor-Cycle Club will be held. This will be the 25th annual meeting, and will be in the Royale Dutch Lounge commencing at 7.30. Special road safety films are to be screened for the benefit of cyclists. Motor-cyclists throughout the Dominion are combining in a serious effort to reduce the number of accidents. An unofficial report has been received by the writer to the effect that tho Transport Department is of the opinion that these efforts are already proving of great value. It is pointed out, however, bv the Transport Department, that results will be even more obvious if the motorcyclists join the nearest club operating in the district in which they reside. These clubs in turn are, in the main, affiliated with a national body known as the Auto Cycle Union (Inc.). If every motor-cycle owner pulled his weight in the direction indicated the A.C.U. would become a truly representative body and would be able to do as much for its members as the Automobile Association does. Patrols are already operating on the toads pulling up offenders against the road code, offering advice to the offenders and urging them to follow the principle of “Safety first and always.” How much this work is appreciated by the authorities is indicated by the fact that on Thursday night next tho Transport Department has arranged to bring to the Manawatu Orion Club’s annual meeting some talkie films bearing largely on the read safety campaign. All interested in motor-cycling are invited to view these films. The past 12 months has been fairly lively in the matter of reliability trials, but the retiring committee is of the opinion that the social side of the club has not been developed as it should. It has, therefore, been decided to bring down a recommendation to the incoming committee that this side of the club’s functions shall receive special attention.
