ROAD RACE PROJECT
Cycling Club’s Plans FAREWELL GATHERING ARRANGED At the meeting of the committee of the Woodville Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Wednesday evening it was decided to hold a social and dance on Wednesday next in conjunction with the golf club, to say farewell to Mr. A. Harris, who has disposed of his business in the town and is shortly to leave the district. Mr. Harris has always been a keen supporter of the club and as joint-secretary during the past year j has been an efficient and enthusiastic officer. In view of these facts, the committee felt that such an evening as they have planned should take place. Tho position of secretary-treasurer to j tho club is now hold solely by Mr. G. Butler. At the meeting, Mr. Harris read a statement of the finances of tho club, and a very satisfactory position was disclosed. Mr. J. Scott propounded a scheme for | the holding of a long-distance cycle road race under the auspices of tho club, during September next. His suggestion that the prizes should total a value of £3O was critically received at first, but ho explained the suggestion and members are now enthusiastic about the project. Mr. Scott estimated ; that this offer would attract riders from 1 many miles away, so that perhaps 80 or 100 entrants would face the starter.Ho also suggested soliciting the cooperation of the Pahiatua and Mangatainoka Clubs and this idea was adopt- j ed. The secretary was instructed to j write the centre nominating a date for , the event. The question of top-dressing the j track on the recreation ground was left in the hands of the chairman, Mr. J. Sullivan.
