From Our Own CorrespondentMethodist Guild. The Methodist Ladies' Guild met at tho Parsonage on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Ashworth has accepted office as president and led the devotions Mesdames 1. HBurnell W. Digby, W. R. Pratt, a. ivr. Barker,’ J. F. Jensen, L. Gould, T. Brazier and C. McKay, and Misses E. and Grjighv were also present. The president read extracts from a paper on China, which made interesting references to the changed outlook that Christianity has brought into tho lives of many Chinese. A competition was won by Mrs J Jensen. On behaif of the members, Mrs Ashworth presented Mrs Purnell with a posy and congratulated her on the recent celebration of her silver wedding, and as a token of appreciation of Mrs Purnell s services to the church over a lengthy Period. Mrs Ashworth expressed trie wish that Mrs Purnell be spared for many years to continue her good works. At the afternoon tea table, pride of place was given to a wedding cake decorated with silver favours, made by Mrs Digby in honour of the occasion. As the ‘’bride” cut the cake, she was accorded musical honours. Mrs Purnell thanked her friends for their good wishes, flowers and lovely cake. Rev. Ashworth reminded members of the circuit rally to be held at Rangiwahia, when the Rangiwahia Church Memorial Vestry is to be opened. The date coincides with the 44tli. anniversary ol' the opening of the Apiti Church, and Mrs L. Gould has kindly offered to make the Apiti anniversary cake. Young Farmers’ Club. There was an attendance of 28 at the debating evening on Monday night when two teams of Apiti young farmers debated on the subject of Continuance v. Prohibition. Mr Colin Spence presided and Mr J. R. Osborne gave constructive criticism to assist the speakers at future debates. Mr Osborne is to select a team to represent Apiti Y.F.G. in the Manawatu interclub debating contest, for which Mr W. J. Viles has donated a silver mounted shield. The debate was judged by popular vote and the speakers were followed with close attention, the majority beingin favour of the affirmative (Continuance). Those taking part were A. Viles, F. Viles, A. Cowan, C. Elliott, H. Viles, S. Cook, and J. Wingate. National Party. . Mrs T. H. Purnell presided over a small gathering l of lady supporters of the National Party, the meeting beeing held at Mrs W. McKay’s homo early on Tuesdayevening. Arrangements were made for a social evening with old-time dances, and it was also decided to arrange a produce stall to augment funds.
